Ejulu! is a private location-sharing app for trusted circles: it shares a member's position only when needed, with no continuous tracking and no location history. This page mirrors the guide built into the app (menu → Help) and answers the most common questions. If you can't find your answer here, write to hemme.dev@gmail.com.
Ejulu! shares your location only when needed: no continuous tracking, no location history.
When a member sends you a request (a "ping"), your device captures your position and publishes it to the group in encrypted form. You can do the same at any time with "Send my location".
On the map you see each member's last position, with the relative time ("2 min ago"), the GPS accuracy circle and the battery level.
Whoever creates a group becomes its admin; other members join by scanning the QR code shown by a member, or by pasting the linking code.
The QR contains the key that decrypts the group's locations: show it in person, don't send it over chat, because anyone who receives it can read all shared locations.
If a member reinstalls the app or changes device, any member still enrolled can simply show the QR again.
You can request an updated location for a single member from the icon on their card, or for the whole group with "Update everyone".
With "Send my location" you immediately publish your position to the group you are currently viewing, encrypted with the group's key.
The device receiving a request answers on its own, even with the app closed, as long as location permissions allow it.
You can pause a group for 2, 4, 8 or 24 hours from the 🔇 icon on the home screen: while paused your device neither answers nor sends requests, and the group resumes on its own when the pause ends.
To answer requests with the app closed you need the "Always allow" location permission: the banner on the home screen takes you straight to the setting.
With "While in use" only, positions are shared only while the app is open.
Notifications alert you to location requests and to the approaching expiry of timed groups.
A group can have an expiry date: a countdown shows the days left, with alerts 24 hours and 2 hours before it expires.
At expiry the group locks reversibly: no more locations, requests or joins, until the admin extends it.
Extending an expired group resets the members: each one receives an invite to rejoin with one tap (or to ignore it). If nobody extends it within 7 days, the group is deleted with all its data.
The admin (initially whoever created the group) can rename it, set or change the expiry, extend it and delete it.
To leave a group with other members, the admin must nominate a successor among the members: the role passes to the new admin in a single operation.
When the last member leaves, the group is deleted along with its locations.
Locations are end-to-end encrypted (AES-256-GCM): the key is born on the members' devices and never passes through the server, which cannot read the coordinates.
The service keeps only temporal metadata (when a position was updated) and only each member's latest position: no movement history.
Other members only see your "visible name" (by default your first and last name initials), never your full name: you can customize it from the "Visible name" entry in the menu.
The full Privacy Policy is available here.
"Unable to detect your GPS position": check that location services are on and set to high accuracy, that Ejulu! has at least the "While in use" permission, and that battery saver isn't limiting it; indoors, try near a window. The same message also appears when publishing fails due to no connection.
"Key not available on this device": you reinstalled the app or left the group; ask a member to show you the QR code again.
"Group expired": ask the admin to extend it.
If the app can't reach the service, check your network and retry from the error screen.
No: being admin is only a management role (name, expiry, group deletion). Locations and data are the same for all members.
No: Ejulu! keeps no history, only the latest position published by each member.
You lose the group keys stored on the device: to rejoin you need the QR code shown by a member.
It depends on the GPS signal: the circle around the marker shows the estimated accuracy at the time of the fix.
You can delete your account at any time directly in the app (profile menu → "Delete account"). To request deletion from outside the app (for example after uninstalling it), send an email to hemme.dev@gmail.com from the Google address you use to sign in, with subject "Account Deletion Request - Ejulu!".
